Amusing to hear it called “geocaching”… we called it survival !!
My first time was in 1969 while hiking in the mountains of Granite County Montana… my Dad had stashed 1 pound coffee cans around the area in the late 40’s early 50’s with matches, fish-hooks, a few rifle and pistol rounds, a string-saw and other items in case he and or friends got lost while out hunting along with a note on who’d placed the can. Back then there was no GPS… just an old list with directions such as “at the bottom of the broken lodgepole pine 50 paces SSW of the Rumsy Creek Beaver Dams”
We found each of the 10 cans he’d placed and added a note with the date and our names.
We NOW have done this on our farms in California and the Philippines for orienteering practice with local Boy Scout groups and my daughters. Thank Goodness for tupperware !!
Reading UP on the subject I’m terribly curious as to suburban geocaching… I mean EVERYONE has GPS these days !!
I Look forward to others responses.
